{Charlie’s Gift Perspective}

One of the most obvious gifts of our ancestors is our very life. Without them we would not be. Each of our parents had two parents. Each of those grandparents had two parents. Each of those great-grandparents had two parents. Going back four generations we have 16 ancestors who we don’t know at all and yet they have supported bringing us to where we are right now. What a gift our life is!

Some things you could do to honor your ancestors:

  • Say some words of intention, be that a prayer or an internal dialog, around giving thanks to those who came before and on whose shoulders you stand.
  • Write a poem as an homage to your ancestors.
  • Call a living ancestor and ask some questions about their parents or grandparents.

Curious and want to go deeper?

You might consider honoring those ancestors by doing more. Do some research. Maybe that’s family tree research, or maybe that’s a genetic test to understand where you came from. Get curious about the countries your ancestors came from, what their cultures are like or were like when they were alive. What did they do or practice – ceremonies, rituals, religions, traditions, or any passed down wisdom?
